A place where book lovers, families, and casual browsers can all feel at home
Dillons Bookshop in Norwood is more than a bookstore. It’s a reading destination, a community friend and a little bit of magic all rolled into one.
First opened in 1984 on The Parade, Dillons Bookshop has become a cherished Adelaide institution. Growing steadily over the decades, the store now occupies a massive 700 square metres and is widely regarded as the city’s largest independent, family-owned bookshop.
Walking into Dillons, you quickly notice it’s not your usual bookshop, especially in the children’s section, where a whimsical “architectural tree” (constructed from ply and eco-panel) forms a central, playful feature. Around it, reading nooks, colourful rainbows, mossy-tone carpets, and cozy “clouds” on the ceiling create a magical, fairy-tale vibe perfect for inspiring young imaginations.
Dillons stocks a broad range of books, including contemporary and classic fiction, non-fiction, reference titles, children’s books and more. The stock list goes beyond just books – you’ll also find puzzles, board games and gift cards.
One of the things that makes Dillons stand out is their willingness – and ability – to track down hard-to-find titles. Whether it’s a rare edition or out of print, the staff more often than not succeed in tracking down whatever the customer is after.
Step into Dillons Bookshop, wander among the shelves and lose track of time under the wooden tree. More likely than not, you’ll leave with a book for a rainy afternoon – or a gift for a friend – or both.
