The festive season can be a whirlwind of social events, celebrations and overindulgence, making it easy to lose sight of your health and fitness goals. But staying on track doesn’t have to mean missing out on the fun. Soul365 are here with a few smart strategies and a balanced mindset so you can enjoy the holidays while still feeling your best.

1. Avoid restricting or laying on the guilt. These behaviours and mindsets typically lead to unnecessary overeating and “falling off the wagon”.

2. Set your expectations low for big gains during December. If you’ve got a packed social calendar, chances are you won’t be hitting a bench press PB or setting any 10km records.

3. Keep moving. If you go from five or six training sessions per week to two or three, that’s ok. Keep your NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) up by walking as much as possible, taking stairs instead of elevators and don’t be a stranger to the dance floor.

4. Opt for lower-calorie drinks at parties and functions. You can’t go wrong with vodka, soda and fresh lime!

5. Plan for the hangover and don’t let yourself slug in bed all day. There’s no better way to beat the hangover than by booking a sauna session at Soul 365 to sweat it out – and don’t forget to rehydrate. We love SA brand Sodii to keep us hydrated after a workout or a night on the booze.

6. Finally, enjoy yourself. Life is for living! Gym and calorie monitoring doesn’t have to be 52 weeks of the year.
