Adelaide butcher Baxter Eckert is slicing up social media as “Baxter the Butcher”, mixing laughs, meat knowledge and viral videos for Windsor Meats

Adelaide butcher Baxter Eckert has become a local social media star over the past six months. Part of the team at Windsor Meats, “Baxter the Butcher”, as he’s affectionately called, has taken over people’s feeds with his hilarious videos, whether that’s showcasing prime cuts of meat or creating a rave in the meat fridge while lip synching to Cascada’s ‘Everytime We Touch’.

So how did it all come about?

“It honestly started pretty naturally,” the moustached Baxter explains. “I said to Sam (Windsor Meats co-owner), ‘I reckon people would actually enjoy seeing more of the butchering side of things and how we do things here in the shop day to day and teach people an awesome trade’. From there, Baxter the Butcher just kind of grew out of wanting to show the craft, the process and a bit more of my personality behind the counter.”

Inspired by New Zealand chef and social media influencer Andy Cooks, who boasts over five million followers on Instagram and over six million on YouTube, Baxter doesn’t just want to make funny videos; he wants to educate while entertaining.

“It's about giving people the confidence to cook and try something new,” Baxter says. “I love showcasing [my] passion for the industry, whether it’s breaking down a carcass or sharing simple dinner ideas. At the end of the day, if people cook it better, enjoy it more and feel confident doing it, that's a win for them and for us.”

The recent viral success is not lost on Baxter, who understands how important social media is for a business like Windsor Meats.

“It allows us to connect with customers in a way we never really could before. It gives people a look behind the scenes of the shop, the work that goes into what we do, and the passion we have for the trade and how much of a family Windsor Meats really is. At the end of the day, it builds trust with the community and encourages people to come in store and support their local butcher.”
